Kitchen Refurbishment in Whalley Range
Project Details
Following a Google search for “Kitchen Solutions in Manchester” Mr McKinlay completed the booking form via our calendar for a free home survey.
During the initial home survey, we discussed Mr McKinlay’s ideas and plans for removing an internal wall and opening up the space to create a larger kitchen/dining area. More of the structural alterations were discussed, including the installation of a bi-folding door and blocking up the existing back door and a couple of windows.
Once we had the structural alteration ideas jotted down, we then looked at a few different options for the proposed kitchen layout and how the new kitchen would be used.
The large dining table needed to remain for social gatherings, but also a breakfast bar where work could be completed during the day, and another dining option was included in the wishlist.
After a proposed layout was agreed upon, we discussed our door ranges, worktop options and sinks and taps. Mr McKinlay wanted to have a modern kitchen but also keep some traditional elements like a double-range oven.

Following the home survey and using all of the information gathered, our design team started to work on the floor plan and 3D images ready to present via our video quotation presentation. During the video presentation which is sent to all our potential customers, we discussed the initial designs and services that would be required to complete the new kitchen refurbishment, along with the associated costs.
Mr McKinlay was pleased with our initial designs and quotation and booked a design review meeting, where we were able to go over the initial designs and plan. We also viewed some door samples along with the Dekton worktops samples. During the design review meetings, we discussed some changes that were required and the estimated time frame for the works to be completed.
Following a few tweaks to the initial designs, we sent over the updated 3D images along with our proposal. As with all of our full refurbishments, we require the total cost of the kitchen furniture and quartz worktops in advance, along with a 40% deposit of the labour part of the quotation to book an agreed start date. The remaining balance is then due once the sign-off has been completed at the end of the project.

Week 1 & 2:
Before the kitchen installation could begin, our team needed to complete some structural alterations to open up the space and create the open-plan kitchen/dining area.
This included:
• Removal of an internal load-bearing wall.
• Installation of new steel beams.
• Creating an opening for new 4 metre bi-folding doors.
• Blocking up the existing backdoor and side window.
During the 1st week, we also removed the existing kitchen, which included making the gas, water and electrical points safe and secure.
Week 3 & 4:
After all the structural alterations were completed, our team moved on to the next stage of the project, which included:
• Installation of the new 4 metre bi-folding doors.
• Removal of the remaining plaster.
• All walls and ceiling boarded out, including new fire protective boarding around the steel beams.
• 1st fix electrical, plumbing and gas points.
• Fresh plaster on all walls and ceiling.
• Flooring prepped and joist restoration.
Towards the end of the 4th week, we began fitting the new kitchen!
Week 5&6:
Now that all the base units were in place, the new flooring could be installed, along with the template for the new Dekton worktops.
Once the flooring was completed, our team continued with the installation of the new kitchen along with the 2nd fix of the utilities, electric, gas and plumbing.
• New LVT herringbone flooring.
• Dekton Worktops template.
• New kitchen units and doors installed.
• New LED ceiling spotlights, pendants and under-unit LED lights.
• Installation of range gas cooker.
• Installation of Dekton Worktops.
• Plumbing of new sink, tap and dishwasher.
At the end of week 6, we completed the sign-off process with Mr McKinlay, which included completing a kitchen sign-off report, advice on how to protect and care for the new kitchen and worktops and our market-leading aftercare service.
