How Much Does It Cost to Install a Kitchen?

If you are planning to buy a new kitchen, you might be wondering how much the installation part cost will be? As much as we would like to provide a simple answer, unfortunately just like the actual kitchen installation, it isn’t a one size fits all answer.
There are many factors to consider when planning to buy a new kitchen, and the installation part is one not to be underestimated. You can read a little more of ‘What to expect during a kitchen installation’ on our other blog, but here we will be focusing more on the actual costs of installing a kitchen and the things to take in to consideration when planning what option will be best suited for you.

Factors that will determine your costs

Firstly, let’s understand what you are actually trying to achieve with your new kitchen project. Will you be carrying out a like for like replacement of what is currently in place, or are you planning to remove internal walls to make a larger kitchen/diner space? Maybe you have decided to extend your property and your dream kitchen is to include a large island and separate dining area. As you can tell, the variations of a new kitchen project are quite dramatic, from extensions to refreshing your current space, and all of this will have an impact on the cost of the kitchen installation part. Not only will you be required to factor in the cost of your new kitchen and installation, but building costs, electricians, plumbers and flooring to name but a few.

Options that are available for Kitchen Installations

If you are at the beginning of your journey, and please remember that it is a journey and one that will require lots of patience and collaboration, you have a few options to choose from. As a general rule; the cheapest options pose the most risk and inconvenience and the more expensive options will offer you less risk and more convenience.
So let’s look at what options are available to complete your kitchen installation.

Do it yourself

Unless you are an experienced tradesperson, we would suggest to rule this option out completely. It’s a bad idea and could end up costing you thousands to put right and delay your project by quite some time.

Design it yourself

Again, unless you are an experienced designer, have the right knowledge to design a kitchen, project manage and are well connected to the trade world, this option can be very costly and be very time consuming. There are many companies out there that offer a free tool on their websites, us included (see here). These free tools are to help with the basics of your kitchen layout and can be quite complicated to use if you have never designed a kitchen previously. We would always suggest to work with a reputable kitchen company to ensure your kitchen is not only designed correctly, but it has all of the correct components and that they are actually in the right places. Failure to do so can delay your project, blow your budget and frustrate the tradesperson you have employed to complete your installation.

Collaborate with a local kitchen fitter

You may wish to work with a local installer, agree designs, layout and products together. You or the installer supply the products and agree on terms.
Who should choose this option? Well there is still quite a lot of work and time required from yourself and costs. The local fitter will want compensating for his time to help with the planning stages, and although they may be great kitchen fitters, designs might not be their strength. If things go wrong once the job starts, it will possibly be a struggle to find another fitter to take over a job that has already started.

We receive maybe 2-3 calls per month from people who have been let down part way through an installation, and unfortunately, we can not offer our services for various reasons.

Use an end-to-end service specialist

Work with an expert from start to finish, utilising professional kitchen designers, installers and aftercare packages. Costs will be fixed and you will have an avenue for recourse if you are not happy. This option is aimed at people who want to put all of their energy in to the creative part of the journey and leave the rest for the experts to deal with. The costs will be higher but offer the most chance at success the first time at trying.
